Common questions
Which email accounts work?
Gmail and Google Workspace, Outlook, Hotmail and Microsoft 365, plus Yahoo, iCloud, AOL and any other provider that supports IMAP. Yahoo, iCloud and AOL need an app password, which you create in that provider's account security settings.
What do the swipes do?
- Right: reply.
- Left: archive.
- Up: left half stars, right half forwards.
- Down: left half deletes, right half marks as spam.
- Hold for one second: mark as read and remove from your stack.
You can replay the welcome tour any time from ••• → Settings.
Why is a card green, amber or red?
Thumbmail colors each card by how likely you are to need to answer it, based on how often that person emails you and how often and how quickly you reply. It's worked out on your iPhone. With Pro you can fine-tune it under ••• → Customize Priority.
I'm not getting notifications.
Check ••• → Notifications in Thumbmail, and make sure notifications are allowed for Thumbmail in your iPhone's Settings. New-email alerts depend on iOS letting the app refresh in the background, so they can arrive a little after the email does. Turning on Background App Refresh for Thumbmail helps.
Google says the app is unverified.
While Thumbmail is in testing, Google may show a warning when you sign in. Tap Advanced, then Go to Thumbmail to continue. Your mail still goes only between your iPhone and Google; see the privacy policy.
How do I cancel Pro?
Pro is billed through your Apple ID. On your iPhone open Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Thumbmail Pro and tap Cancel. You keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for.
How do I remove an account or my data?
In Thumbmail go to ••• → Inboxes, tap ••• next to the account and choose Remove. Deleting the app removes everything Thumbmail stored on your iPhone. You can also revoke access from your Google account or Microsoft account.
